This woman and her music
have been with me for so much of my life.

Through my turbulent teens as I learned what a woman could be, and do. Madonna, along with my mother, taught me to think for myself. Madonna did everything she wasn’t supposed to do and became one of my most important role models.

I held her on a pedestal in my head even while busy being a battered wife. She was one of the voices who kept saying I shouldn’t have to live like that. She was one of the women who taught by example, the strength that women could be. Midway through my twenties, I left that marriage and rejected abusers ever after. Whether anyone understands or not. I care not.

This woman’s music accompanied me through workouts spanning thirty years.

Three little boys have grown up listening to the same lyrics and seeing Elvis worthy…

  1. I used to like Madonna as a kid. One of the songs I loved best was Miles Away. And then I chanced upon someone special, who held Madonna above everything! Now when we things took an ugly turn, I find it hard to listen to Madonna.

    It’s funny how music plays such an influential role in our lives.

    I hate being reminded of the ex that really broke my heart. I’m so sorry you’ve always got that reminder now.
